“Not Grudgingly, Nor Under Compulsion”: Giving as a means of sanctification

The subject this month’s article is money. But it is not about making money or interest rates or stock averages. It is not about getting money . . . it is about giving money. Our society shouts to us to get all the money we can amass, to grab for gusto, as if the one with the most money at the end of life wins. That might be a good strategy for monopoly, but it is not the way to live life properly. Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Giving will make us happier than getting. If we are to live life well, one thing we had better do some thinking about and have God’s perspective on is money.

May: Missionary Update

When we returned from the states in 2007 we had a lot of catching up to do in our apartment as well as in the neighborhood. There had been a lot of changes, like new stores, new streets and new neighbors. I like to get to know our new neighbors, so I usually prepare some plates of cookies and take them to their doors and greet them for the first time.

Spiritual Fog Chaser

I like coffee! No bones about it, I like to drink coffee. Not just any coffee mind you; I like it strong and black, but not too hot. Heather likes her coffee with cream and sweetener and extra hot! To me that defeats the point, for I want to drink it, not sit and hold it for ten minutes while it cools down, but to each his own. We enjoy the ritual of grinding the beans, the excellent aroma of fresh ground beans, the sound and smell of the percolating brew, and that first cup of the day. Ahhhhh!
