A CHRIST-CENTERED CHRISTIAN EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY OF HOW TO FULLY EQUIP GOD’S PEOPLE TO SERVE HIM IN LOCAL CHURCHES
The Master Teacher is our example and we want to follow His model in our teaching. In the Great and Glorious Commission He handed out teaching certificates to all who love Him. “All power is given to Me … Go … and teach, make disciples of all nations, immersing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you” (Mt. 28:18-20).
Our encouraging example, Christ, spent most of His time instructing twelve apostles. Having no other plan, Jesus is commanding us to carry out His commission. Our views on education, on making disciples, on Bible doctrine, and on eternal life come directly from Christ, the greatest of all philosophers. “In Him are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col. 2:3). His inherent genius as Master Educator is seen in Jesus at age 12 in God’s temple, “sitting among the teachers, both hearing them, and asking them questions” (Lk. 2:46). This concise verse on the Lord’s interactive teaching is the scriptural method for us to follow. Jesus often sat among His disciples knowing that a relaxed and informal outdoor classroom encourages active student involvement. He listened to their questions and problems, and asked probing questions. Read the four Gospels, counting the number of questions Jesus asked, and the students asked.
“Stir up the gift of God which is in you … For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind” (2 Tim. 1:6-7). Our spiritual growth in learning and teaching is given by the Holy Spirit, within us, using God’s powerful Word. “The Holy Spirit … will guide you into all truth … and shall be in you … He shall teach you all things, and bring … to your remembrance … what you ought to say” (Jn. 16:3, 14:17, 14:26, Lk, 12:12). Our lofty aim is spiritual advancement in Christ-likeness. “Him we proclaim … that we may present every person mature (full-grown, complete, and perfect) in Christ” (Col. 1:28, Amp.). “…Conformed to the image of His Son” (Rom. 8:29).
Our big job is to instruct in Bible doctrine to protect family and church from being corrupted by evil worldly beliefs. Do you accept this true teacher’s Confession of Faith? I believe the Bible is the Lord’s inspired Word of Truth, God breathed. Inspired in the original autographs, it is absolutely without mistakes. I believe in Bible miracles, prophecies, and the supernatural power of God. I believe in the Virgin Birth, that Christ is all God, all Man, His death, resurrection, return, and salvation only by faith in Him, not by works. Believer’s immersion and the Lord’s Supper are local church pictorial ordinances commanded by Christ, having no saving value. The local church (assembly) founded by Jesus, is our model for doing His work today. Without false evolution, God created all things by His Sovereign Will in six days.
“The instructions which you have heard from me … transmit and entrust to reliable and faithful men who will be competent and qualified to teach others also” (2 Tim. 2:2, Amp.). God will greatly bless you and your family as you glorify Him in training others. Many open doors welcome Bible teachers. To name a few: home Bible classes, senior retirement homes, hospitals, jails, neighborhood sports, jobs, summer Bible classes, mentoring, counselor, lesson writer, missionary, pastor, assistant pastor, substitute teacher, director of Christian Education, youth, children’s ministry, start a new church, give good books and family ministry. Limited only by your creative vision, the open doors are endless. Extend your ministry to future unborn generations.
